A soul of nowhere
Somewhere between dream and reality, in a small cottage in the middle of nowhere, a painter (Maurycy Wolf) confronts a creative block. In his artistic endeavors, he is accompanied by his partner (Justyna Fabisiak), who helplessly watches him in a futile attempt to create a masterpiece. Despite being in the prime of his life, the painter cannot shake off the apathy and sense of the futility of what he is doing, and his easel, despite many hours of trying, does not fill up. The wooden house begins to reflect the protagonist's psyche, filling up with the characters of the women of his life, each of whom, in their way, tries to help the artist and remind him of who he was in the past.

Gamid Ibadullayev (b. 1980) is a visual artist, filmmaker, and musician of Azerbaijani origin, a graduate of the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts in Baku and the Film and Television Academy in Warsaw. He has lived and worked in Poland since 2005. His works have been exhibited in Polish, German, Azerbaijani, and Turkish art galleries. His practice combines painting, photography, video art, film, and music.
In 2016, he founded the Audiovisual Experiments Studio, an interdisciplinary group of artists exploring video art, experimental film, photography, and improvised music. In 2023, he debuted as a director and music author with A Soul of Nowhere, a Polish-Azerbaijani psychological drama. His second feature, Orange Frames (2025), is an experimental film returning to the essence of silent cinema as a live performance with improvised music.
He composes music for his own films and collaborates with other musicians in the fields of experimental music, jazz, and folk.
In my full-length debut, I place the figure of the artist in the purgatory of a lack of inspiration and look for the reasons why a man shuts down from life. The film is filled with symbols of contemplation on depression and the decline of human creative energy, as well as meditation on the impact of the past on our present. I fill the minimalism of the film with black-and-white cinematography and atmospheric Caucasian music, creating a poetic image of the death and rebirth of the artist’s soul.
