Director Statement

I wrote 'Ask.' in the aftermath of Sarah Everard's murder in London in 2021. I was struck by the public's shock at the fact that a police officer could commit such a heinous crime when I, and so many of my female friends, had to learn so early on that a person's professional status or relationship with you does in no way protect you from the threat of being sexually harassed or assaulted by them. It's disheartening that despite our experiences, society still assigns certain crimes to certain people and perpetuates the idea that sexual harassment only happens outside of our comfort zone. The truth is, it often happens within our circles. 'Ask.' was created to raise awareness of these issues and give equal weight to both the obvious and less obvious threats. I hope it can entertain people while encouraging them to empathize with the constant fear that women face.
