A Short Story

Mona, a woman nearing forty, finally fulfills her lifelong dream of becoming a mother by adopting a baby girl. Overwhelmed with joy, she eagerly embraces her new role, envisioning a future filled with love and happiness. However, her joy is short-lived when she learns that her daughter has leukemia, a life-threatening condition that will require extensive care and treatment.

Now, Mona faces an agonizing decision: should she keep the baby and commit to the intense battle against the illness, knowing the emotional and financial toll it will take, or should she consider giving her up, ensuring her daughter receives the specialized care Mona fears she can’t provide? As she wrestles with this heart-wrenching choice, Mona must redefine what it means to be a mother, confronting her deepest fears and discovering the true nature of unconditional love.

Director Biography - Aseman Tousi

Fatemeh Tousi (Aseman Tousi)
• Date of Birth: July 30, 1990
• Profession: Environmental Engineer, Filmmaker
Born in Ahvaz, Iran, Fatemeh Tousi, also known as Aseman Tousi, grew up in a culture where traditional norms often limited women's opportunities. Despite the male-dominated environment in both her hometown and the broader Iranian society, she was determined to break through these barriers and pursue her passions. Starting as an environmental engineer, Fatemeh quickly realized her true calling lay in storytelling through film.

Her first short film, The American Bull (2016), was officially selected for the prestigious Oberhausen Film Festival and featured in several other international festivals. With relentless determination, she transitioned into filmmaking, using her unique perspective to tackle challenging societal issues. Through her films, Fatemeh has not only realized her dreams but has also become a symbol of resilience and empowerment for women in Iran and beyond.
