As You Wish

Li Ran once had a successful career and a happy family. However, after experiencing a series of setbacks, including divorce, job loss, and a failed job search, he falls into a deep low point, unable to find meaning in life. Just as he is on the verge of despair, a tech company approaches him and invites him to participate in the "Ruyi (Wishful) World" project experiment. This virtual world operates according to his wishes, with every desire being fulfilled. At first, Li Ran is exhilarated by the control he has, and every achievement gives him a sense of accomplishment. But over time, he begins to realize that this satisfaction becomes more fleeting, and eventually, it fails to bring lasting happiness.

The film ends with a monologue from Li Ran within the virtual world, hinting that he is about to awaken to the realization that the experiences along the way are more important than the ultimate goal. Finally, the camera shifts back to the real-world laboratory, where the researchers of the tech company discuss Li Ran's unusual behavior in the virtual world, while Li Ran remains lying on the cold experimental bed. The open-ended conclusion leaves space for the audience’s imagination and opens the door for future developments in the story.
