AWE$OME (As We Experience Situations Our Minds Expand)
AWE$OME
"As We Experience Situations Our Minds Expand"
Log line: A charismatic young music artist is gifted a magical coin After losing his money in a dice game. This coin, when flipped grants his deepest wish. Leaving his rougher origin behind he is forced to experience the real and the possible.
The Story of Awe$ome explores complexities of the human experience. As We Experience Situations Our Minds Expand, this is the sentiment behind our character’s actions. Magical elements enhance the story’s mystery as we are presented with artifacts that bend space and time. Retro begins his journey as an urban youth who is loved by his local peers. After being baited into a gamble with a mischievous leprechaun, Retro is gifted a magic coin that grants his only wish.
Awe$ome is dissecting the story of Retro’s life and others, as his decisions immediately affect those around him. A story matrix is created within this docu-magical-realist-narrative, and supports other projects beyond this 60 minute experience. The film also takes a look into the exploitation of black art forms. Independence is also a major theme in this story. Retroisawesome is for the independence of thought and action. Within music especially, record labels and managers are notoriously known for skimming money or signing talented artist into lifetime deals that yield little to no Financial benefit. The leprechaun in the hood serves as a symbol of these types of culture vultures. Other Characters present themselves in a superficial manner emphasizing the fakeness of the entertainment industry. The Opportunities and challenges granted by this intervention cautions Retro to make the right decision at all times.
The films timeline begins in 2012 when Retro is displaced in his family and society. His encounter with law enforcement and disputes with his mother lead him to take the more lucrative approach to life. Awe$ome’s timeline then ends in 2020, where Retro is in a more enlightened space physically and mentaly. His friends and family support his ventures and are excited to see what is next.
Awesome Is created from Digital filmed footage and 35mm Film Photography, It is full of archival video files and scenes filmed on multiple sets in: Plainfield NJ, Austin TX, Brooklyn NY. All music is apart of the original Awesome soundtrack. This film is based on a true story, some events dramatized for magical-realist depth. Submissions to 2020 film fest is a top priority for the film, we will be holding the screening at express Newark in October 2020.
