The Colors of the Water
In a succession of portraits, dance and music shape Eulália's personal path from a country girl to a fighting woman. Various areas in the region are the setting in which the anxieties and dilemmas that affect her relationship with her family unfold, at the same time that they are themselves shaped by the historical development of Santo Tirso, Portugal. The constant challenge of expectations and the establishment of connections to the Other are evident as the driving forces of the individual torrent that is the never ending search for happiness. A path that, through the building and release of tensions, assumes the potential to operate changes that define fates, in the same way that the rivers that mark the territory of this region define so much of its identity.
This is, in the end, a story both about Eulália and about Santo Tirso itself, its landscapes and its people, where persistence and solidarity stand out as the essential tone of a highly coloured fabric.

Alexandra Barbosa was born in Oporto, Portugal, in 1997.
While still living in the north of Portugal she studied at the Artistic School Soares dos Reis where she experiments with many artistic areas and ends up directing the prized short documentary “Camel Toe”. This movie had a big festival journey passing through some of the most important festivals in Portugal, such as: Porto Post Doc, Queer Porto, Festival Politica, Olhares do Mediterrâneo, etc. It also got the 3rd place at the Portuguese Academy Student awards.
Later, as she moved to the capital, she started her journey at the Lisbon Theatre and Film School and developed, while in the first year, the short experimental film “Primavera” which gave her the Azores Fringe Fest prize of 2019.
Both these projects reflect the themes of identity and freedom of expression.
This is the main theme of her work as an artist, but it changes when she turns to herself.
As the course goes on, Alexandra directs a series of other short-films that are gradually more focused in individual and personal identity either in a community or alone. Generally, her titles reflect on feminine intimacy.
From these experiences comes: De Fevereiro a Maio (2019), A Casa das Flores (2020), Inverno and her most recent work Dias de Nada (2020).
Today she explores the deconstruction of academic rules.
In July of 2020 she is invited to participate in the artistic residency entitled ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES curated by the theatrical company Silly Season, which is meant to gather the emerging young artists of Lisbon in the Rua das Gaivotas no 6 Gallery. Here she develops the project CONSTRUÇÃO/ DESCONSTRUÇÃO which also explores the area of performance.
In 2021, Alexandra is invited to direct the video dance audiovisual piece "As Cores da Água" (2021), produced by Projeto Cardo, where she reenters the narrative world through the dance goggles.
Later in 2021 she participates in a feminist artistic residency in Évora, curated by ATE, where she develops the videoart piece "Diário Autoerótico de uma Adolescente de 16 anos".
