Arun is a Licensed Immigration Adviser with one of the leading migration companies based in Hamilton. Inspired by his own journey of moving abroad and settling in New Zealand, Arun started AJV Global with the purpose of creating an honest and transparent immigration company. He is a proud New Zealander who promotes the country passionately.
However his first love has been the creative field and he has been writing since a very young age and winning awards. Prior to embarking on his entrepreneurial journey, he was keen to join film school in the early 90's and become a full time director. But family circumstances made him opt for a business career instead. He nursed the creative ambition however and after 32 years, he finally made a short film in 2021.
His first short film The Hitchhiker which was made as part of 48 Hours NZ Film Making Challenge 2021 swept Hamilton's contest winning Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Sound Design and Best Female Character. It was also nominated for the national finals in four different categories. Recently the film has also been selected for the prestigious Waikato based Misty Flicks Film Festival and will be screened on the 6th of November 2021 in Hamilton.
Besides recognition within New Zealand, the film is also doing well in the international film festival circuit. It has received 17 considerations out of 30 submissions to date with a 59% success rate including awards from London Indie Film Festival and Best Global Shorts. The film also has to its credit the achievement of being 1 finalist, 6 semi finalist, 1 nominee and 7 official selections at other festivals.
Arun is a self published author with his first novel, 48 Gita Road available on Amazon. He has also been published in various newspapers and magazines for general articles, poems and short stories. He quotes, “Movies are the highest form of combining creativity, art, project management and business. Only a few are born lucky to have the ability to make and sell one. But it will take a while to get there. You have to stay persistent and WILL the universe into making you achieve your dream of being a filmmaker.”
An influencer, published author and an armchair philosopher, his love for cricket still pulls him to the ground for weekend but serious games. Also a motor sport enthusiast and a pilot in the making, he is always up for something new and exciting. Besides a Bachelor of Commerce with Honors, he has a level 3 and level 4 qualification in Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori and is currently pursuing a level 8 postgraduate qualification in Human Potential for the Digital Economy.
He aspires to make a feature film soon.
