Enrico Reynard Winoto is a Film & Animation student at Nusantara Multimedia University (Universitas Multimedia Nusantara). Born on 6 June 2005 in Tasikmalaya, Indonesia, Enrico had always loved storytelling. His love for storytelling brought him into the world of film, where he aspires to be a director and scriptwriter. He has honed his skills in photography and film-making since middle school with limited equipment. "Artificial Boyfriend" is his first narrative short film since high school.
Through his works, he always tries to see the world from a different perspective and discuss about interesting and personal subject matters with the audience. Enrico loves exploring new things and always tries to be a jack-of-all trades. Not only in film, he also dabbles in theater as a playwright and actor.
When we fall in love, do we fall in love with a real person or a character that we envision in our minds? The story of “Artificial Boyfriend” comes from a very personal experience for me, and for
many of us, discussing doubts when falling in love. We doubt the nature of it, whether it is love or just a crush. That is the reason I turned this story into a film. But I also see that this film is
telling another story.
Not only about the struggles of falling in love, this film also talks about morality when falling in love. When in love, is it okay to fantasize about the person we desire? Is fantasizing about our
crush a good thing? What about turning that fantasy into reality in a physical form? Is it permissible? Is fantasizing about our lover the same as objectifying them? I try to raise these questions in this film.
