Johnny Merchán (54 years old) is a former jeweler and a former resident of the El Vecino neighborhood. Together with his family in 2010, they have been forced to abandon what was his home for more than 70 years, due to the inconvenience caused by the impossibility of modifying and restoring the property due to the Cultural Heritage Protection Law. ,
imposed by the Ecuadorian State in 1999. In order not to completely abandon his house and hope for the irremediable, Johnny goes every day to every corner of the house, like a cult. He lives with the hope of one day being able to remodel and return to the place where he spent his childhood and the best years of his life as a family.
He clings to his house on the pretext of tending his little hardware store out front. Of what was his house, only memory and few family files remain.
