Arizona 314: Lessons for an election

Katerin Ixtabalan, a young undocumented Guatemalan living in Phoenix, Arizona, advocates for the voice of the immigrant community amid a presidential election that threatens her future in the United States. Meanwhile, her aunt Mellisa Garcia is eligible to vote but is caught between the fear of anti-immigrant discourse and the need to deal with the economic crisis. Despite the uncertainty, Katerin and her family must continue to work for a better life.

Director Biography - Laura Garcia

Guatemalan documentary filmmaker and photographer focused on migration, ecology and historical memory, with multidisciplinary training in anthropology, journalism, film and visual arts. She is currently photo editor and audiovisual journalist at Plaza Pública, with whom she was nominated for the Gabo Award in 2024. The same year she was a fellow in the Video Consortium's Solutions Storytelling Project: Latin America. Her work has been exhibited at the Festival Internacional de Cine Social y Comunitario Salvaje, Inheritance Festival, Pantalla Itinerante de Fundación Ixcanul, Festival Ícaro, and the Centro de Investigaciones Regionales de Mesoamérica (CIRMA).
