The 700th Anniversary of Dante Alighieri
Dante "The Divine Comedy"
The Inferno, Canto XV, Circle Seven, Round Three. In this circle of Hell, homosexuals are being tortured for violating the order of nature. It is here that Dante finds his mentor, Ser Brunetto Latino.

Fast forward 700 years to a fictional modern Japan where Dante the cat is a university student.
His town has put a ban on alcohol.

Director Biography - Honami Yano

Honami Yano was born on a small island in Japan. During her college years spent in Kyoto, she went on an exchange program to the Rhode Island School of Design. Received the master degree at the Tokyo University of the Arts, Graduate School of Film and New Media. After graduation, she worked for it as a researcher assistant for three years. Her latest film"A Bite of Bone"(2021) had the grand prize for short animation at the 45th edition of the Ottawa International Animation Festival.

Director Statement

This work was produced to commemorate the 700th anniversary of Dante's death.When I thought about the meaning of doing such a masterpiece that influenced humanity and laid the foundation of our culture today, I thought that I would like to represent the hell where "those who indulge in unnatural pleasures" fall was recreated in modern Japan. Then I thought about transplanting the structure in the " the seventh circle of hell," in contemporary Japan. The fire that burns the homosexuals is the red lantern of the drinkers, those who sit here drink too much, and those who lie down here vomit and suffer from alcohol. And even if it is hell out there, I would like to make a toast.
