My mom (妈) loves oranges, they are her favorite fruit.

Sunday afternoons. In between grocery shopping and cooking dinner. My mom would finally take a moment to relax. She would sit at our dining table, and eat oranges while reading the Chinese newspaper. One of the few moments of stillness and enjoyment I remember in my memories of my mom, growing up. She would always exclaim while eating her oranges, “哇..这橘子太甜了.好好吃.”[this orange is so sweet, it’s so good}. I would always find it funny that something so regular and insignificant gave her so much enjoyment.

Built off this memory, “Are the Oranges Sweet?” is a portrait of the quiet ways in which we love and the way we continue to show love within mourning and remembrance.
