Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Theresa Hamilton has had an unusual journey into the film industry. She has always wanted to be an artist, ever since she could hold a pencil. As she grew through her early schooling years, she developed her skills in studio art along with her makeup artistry. She stumbled into the film program at Temple University, not knowing what to expect, as she had never worked with the medium beforehand. She felt drawn to film because it combined her love of art with her analytical thinking and passion for problem solving. She graduated in 2022 with a Bachelors degree in Film and Media Arts, and set out to make her directorial debut. The result is "Appraisal", a comedic look into the dark side of the fine art world. The film is an amalgamation of the many artistic mediums that have interested Theresa throughout her life. She is so thankful to everyone who has helped her begin her filmmaking career. She hopes you enjoy watching "Appraisal" as much as she's enjoyed creating it!
As a child, I loved art and grew up wanting to be an artist. As my life changed and I moved on to film, it brings me so much joy to be able to create something about my childhood passion. Appraisal is a project I’ve been working on for the better part of 3 years. To see it finally be brought to life is a blessing and I cannot wait to share the finished work. Although the short may soon be finished, there is so much more of David’s story untold. It is my goal to see Appraisal become a feature length film someday. I’d love to dive deeper into the harsh reality of the art world and the motives behind David’s actions. Appraisal is a film that is out of the box from your typical student film. The fact that I was even able to pull off this high-concept film on a $2,000 budget is still baffling to me. I owe it to my crew, friends, and family for helping me on this long and bumpy road. As a first time director, having the support from them was the reason we were even able to make this film possible. From one artist to another, this is Appraisal.
