Anpadh
The core message of the film is to highlight certain issues women go through on a day to day basis regarding education in villages. Education is for men and it is they who will end up getting a job and earn a living. Whereas a woman’s job is to get married raise children and look after their husbands and help in the kitchen. People in the villages do not want their sons to marry educated girls and demand a higher dowry for it, because being educated means being progressive, knowing the factual difference from right and wrong. This mentality needs to be wiped out. Therefore in the movie I showed the father eventually understanding the significance of his daughters education and the good that comes with it.
Even though the main motive of my film is not to create awareness of an already known situation, in a society fuelled by patriarchy, I have shown the importance of a supportive male member. While I do not in any way support this mindset, I felt the need to show the bond between siblings in a slightly different way - One where they would break the system together.
The movie depicts the sad reality of girls in our country that we are all well aware of. Instead of going down the usual route of portraying the girl as a helpless victim, I have chosen to bring a ray of hope into the storyline. I wanted to show this story in a different light. A light of hope, because there is still room for change, we are all going through change and we must strive towards the positives of it.
