Private Project

Another morning

Chloé, a 28-year-old woman, works in the humanitarian sector. After several field missions, she secures a permanent position at the headquarters of a major NGO in France. However, this anticipated stability will be disrupted by a workload and a level of commitment that begin to extend into her family life, friendships, and relationship.

Director Biography - Camille Borie, Thiebault Guérin

Encore un matin is the first co-direction of Thiebault Guérin and Camille Borie. They have known each other for over six years and have previously collaborated on two short films directed by Thiebault: Le Marchand de sable and Mise en bouche. Both of these short films, created for the Kino Lyon competition, won first prize. They also jointly produced the collaborative web series Coronanar.

CAMILLE BORIE
Camille Borie (38) has been working for 15 years in the humanitarian field with organizations such as the Red Cross, Handicap International and Médecins du Monde, both in the field (Burkina Faso, Burundi, Iraq, etc.) and at the organizations' headquarters, where she has monitored the crises in Yemen and Ukraine, for example.

She has been writing personal notes since her early age. In 2018, as her first outlet, she wrote the song Burn-out, composed by Benjamin Richardier, a musician in the band Animali and composer of the film.

Since 2019, she has been collaborating on projects with Thiebault, particularly as a co-screenwriter. She began writing Encore un matin in 2020, starting from her personal notes. The film is based on her story.

In 2024, she is an assistant director on the set of Outre-mer Pacifique, a short film by Thomas Rortais, and participates in the writing workshop organized by the association Sauve qui peut le court métrage in Clermont-Ferrand.

THIEBAULT GUÉRIN
A 37-year-old director from Lyon, Thiebault has directed several short films, some of which have been selected and awarded at various festivals, such as L’homme poule (2019), Têtard (2021), and La Traversée (2016).

Thiebault Guérin is also a labor lawyer. His early humorous works focused on his profession, including CRFPA, le film (35 min) and the rap battle between lawyers Clash Juridique – Privatiste contre Publiciste.

He has been president of the association Jeanjean Films since December 2019, which aims to facilitate and encourage the creation and dissemination of cultural, artistic, audiovisual, and cinematic works.

Director Statement

CAMILLE BORIE, writer, co-director
I have been working for 15 years as a project coordinator in the humanitarian field. It’s a job that I love, which can be as rewarding as it intense. It confronts us with unique challenges and pressures: humanitarian needs in situations of crisis, conflicts, and natural disasters are often urgent, immense, and impossible to fully satisfy. They can lead to an overwhelming sense of responsibility and a lot of disillusionment. As such, in 2017, overwhelmed by physical and mental fatigue, as well as a sense of helplessness, I experienced a burnout.

The story of this film was born from personal notes taken over the years, particularly during that time, and from a desire to tell and share what affects many of my humanitarian colleagues, and more broadly, over three out of ten employees in France.

I initially wrote this text as a way of reconciling with my story. I sought to understand the cycle I had fallen into and my responsibility within it, so that it wouldn’t happen again. The idea of turning it into a short film came later, fueled by the enthusiasm the topic generated and thanks to key encounters, Thiebault Guérin being at the forefront of them. These encounters have given the film and this story a dimension I could not have hoped for.

THIEBAULT GUERIN, co-director
As a labor lawyer since 2013, I often handle cases involving employees facing professional burnout. When Camille mentioned her project to write a film on this topic, I immediately wanted to get involved, especially since I had the opportunity to experience the humanitarian world in the past.

Reading the first version of the script in May 2020, I found that it accurately depicted the warning signs of an employee's psychological and physical collapse, such as workload, inadequate resources, unachievable goals, insufficient support from management (which is itself under significant pressure), the gradual blurring of the boundary between private and professional life, the illusion of the situation being temporary and fixable, until all aspects of the person's life suffer.

I felt that Camille approached the subject in a nuanced way, avoiding portraying the main character solely as a victim of an oppressive system, but also as an active participant in her own downfall.

Chloé's story is universal and applicable to all sectors of activity. I am convinced that many people will identify with her, and I hope the film can help those experiencing similar situations to talk about it.
