Another Summer
Eighteen-year-old Bung (Pritish Mutum), like all the young boys of his village, aims to get selected in the Indian Armed Forces. Bung and his friends practice hard for the upcoming military recruitment. Bung's father asks him to submit the admission form for the test to avoid its cancellation. All of these persuasions also occur at a time while Bung faces his first voting participation.
'Another Summer' features four young boys kick-starting their journey into the "real" world. The boys are naive, young, enthusiastic and possess a child-like charm. The Manipuri language coming-of-age film revolves around two aspects - the upcoming election, and the recruitment for an armed force. The boys are faced with the first front at active, gritty politics. This engagement is bestowed upon the boys who are yet to hold onto the responsibilities of life. These events underline a turning point to these boys’ lives as it gives them a massive reality check.

I started my film making journey back in 2009 when I shot my first documentary film (Future @ Risk) which won a state-level film competition award. That was the beginning which boosted my confidence. After obtaining my Bachelors in Mass Communication and Video productions from Shillong, I moved to Delhi and immediately started working as a media professional. I then simultaneously completed my Masters with Mass Communications as my major.
I always wanted to make a feature film, but due to lack of many things (resources, budget, a solid team, and all the other excuses), I never made one. But with self-belief and all the limited resources in hand and also the limited amount of saving, I knew I could pull off a decent short film. I was sure that I didn't want to make a short film which is approx 05-10 minutes. The target was, however, to cross the 20 mins mark, and make it as 'feature-film-like' as possible.
'Another Summer' is not just my first film as an Independent filmmaker but it is a film which has given a ray of hopes to many a drug addict youth of my village. Out of approx 50 actors and crews of my short film, 5 of them have substance abuse problems. I'm more than glad post my film's shoot these 5 kids (well they are all younger than me) went to rehab and now they want to act in my next project. I hope soon I will be able to roll out my next project.
I always wanted to make a film that was based in my home town, a film that captures the reality and not just the grandeur of Northeast India. A film with a story and characters which has the local flavour in abundance yet is global in nature.
Another Summer is based on a real-life personal experience. To put that particular experience in a screenplay was as tough as anything I've ever tried before. It took me 3 years to write the script. Initially, the plan was to make a feature-length film but due to the many limitations that Independent first-time filmmakers face, I shortened the length of the story. I would someday like to tell the entire in a film format.
