Años

"Años" is a short film based on the homonymous short story by Cesare Pavese.

The story follows Cesar and Silvia, a couple who find themselves at an emotional crossroads. The narrative dives into the final moments of their relationship as they explore the intensity of their feelings and the weight of years together.

The plot begins with a heated discussion at home. Cesar, who has been a fundamental part of Silvia's life since her youth, is faced with the painful decision to leave. Overcome by fear and anger, Cesar gathers his belongings and retreats to the kitchen, where he takes refuge in the cigarette smoke and the music, losing himself in his own thoughts until he falls asleep.

Dawn brings with it a temporary truce. Silvia wakes up Cesar, and during a brief conversation, unresolved tensions surface. Silvia's question about Cesar's departure remains unanswered, while he heads to his previous room to complete the packing task. Silvia, meanwhile, prepares coffee in the kitchen, marking an interval that precedes a crucial moment.

In the room where they used to share their life, a sudden and intense discussion takes place. Silvia confesses her emotional detachment, revealing that she has been with Cesar mainly out of fear of loneliness. The revelation hits Cesar like a gust of icy wind, leaving him silent. His emotions are overflowing: anger, pain and frustration mix in an internal storm.

At Silvia's words, instead of facing an emotional confrontation, Cesar chooses to withdraw. His silence, loaded with meaning, speaks for him, and at that moment, he makes the decision to leave without further ado. The story culminates with a moment full of contained emotions, and a gesture by Cesar that encapsulates the weight of the years shared and the decisions made.
