Anne Johnstonbrown is an actor, filmmaker, musician and voiceover artist. She has a Master's Degree in Theatre Arts and has worked as an Adjunct Professor of Theatre Arts at several Southern California universities, including The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles where she taught Acting, Auditioning and the Business of Acting.
As an internationally-renown songwriter, Anne's music can be heard worldwide, from Canada to Africa, on radio and beyond. She is also the author of several books of varying genres, including children’s and mainstream fiction and non-fiction. Her most celebrated works are The 10 Commandments of Theater and True to archeType: A Guide to Characterization in Comedy, both published by Smith & Kraus, the world’s largest publisher of theatre arts books.
Over the past 30 years, Anne has enjoyed an illustrious career on the stage. For 15 years, she was a member of comedian Fred Willard's (Best In Show, Spinal Tap, Everybody Loves Raymond) comedy troupe, The MoHos, and she has also worked closely with Love Boat actor and director, Ted Lange. As an Equity actor, Anne appeared on the famed Kodak Theatre stage (now The Dolby Theatre) as the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and has toured the U.S. with other national shows.
Anne is an award-winning audiobook producer. In 2013, Audible awarded her the Narrator of the Year Award, and she has released nearly 100 published projects over the past decade, many of which are the works of New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors. She also has a career in the commercial voiceover industry and hosts a podcast, The Actors Guide, in which she interviews her celebrity friends for tips and trade secrets that can help burgeoning new actors.
Anne has a heart for the homeless and has spent the better part of a decade working with the residents of Skid Row in Los Angeles. Her book, My Name’s Lyman, chronicles the life of a homeless man and the various destinies he might have lived had he (or those around him) made different choices. The book became a hit musical in Los Angeles (LYMAN The Musical - check out the Broadway World review here) and can now be seen in a series of award-winning short films (A Place Less Cold, Fortune In Gold, and Leaving My Past Behind). The screenplay for the feature film is currently being shopped for future production.
Today, Anne splits her time between her homes in Las Vegas and Sedona, Arizona. For fun, she likes to run, bowl and walk her Cavalier King Charles, Tessie.
