Anne DeMelo is a director and writer working across (and at the often messy, thrilling intersections of) theater, opera, film, and rock n’ roll. She makes surreal, energetic, genre-melting stage and film work that embraces heightened emotional expression, employs live musical scoring and song as integral storytelling components, and revels in lush visual spectacle. Her plays and films vibrate around central questions about the way power dynamics move through our bodies, relationships, and communities, and features characters who, when pushed to the brink, are forced to grapple with their own buried impulses. She completed her MFA as a John Wells Directing Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University in May 2022.
