This movie is a passion project that grew from a series of comedy shorts created for an online school talent show produced during COVID. Entirely written, filmed and acted by students and staff and Laurentian Public School in Kitchener, ON, this movie represents what can happen when you don’t let common sense limit your creativity. When I initially proposed this extracurricular project, it was met with much skepticism, and rightly so! The idea of creating a full-blown cinematic experience with middle school students during nutrition break is a ridiculous proposal. But I knew it was possible, and the kids were all in. As a teacher of 18 years, I also have a background and passion for photography, videography, and sound design. Our production budget of about $2000 was almost entirely raised through a concession cart, which primary cast members brought around to sell to other students during 2nd nutrition breaks. First, nutrition breaks were reserved for rehearsals. Despite the enormity and complexity of the project, the Laurentian family pulled it off to create a unique and memorable movie experience!
