Director Statement

The idea of death has always troubled me; the thought of the end is terrifying. So, I wanted to explore the experience of someone who means so much to our character, being reborn. The style of our film is very odd and supernatural but explainable, similarly to the last narrative short film I directed called ‘The Puppeteer’ which won an Honorable Mention for Athens International Monthly Art Film Festival and Official Selection for Tokyo International Short Film Festival and New York Tri-State International Film festival. So, I decided to approach Angeline in this similar way and to present our Horror Romance as more of a hallucinogenic nightmare caused by the troubled past of our main character.

I believe that the theme of loss and love is such a strong component to this film and due to the notion that everyone will experience an aspect of grief in their lifetime, I think it makes our film very universal. I hope it provides understanding to our important themes such as loneliness and depression and presents them in a way which magnifies the predominance of it in everyday people for a better understanding that feeling the way Xander does about the death of Angeline is only human, and there are people who want to help you through it.
