ANGELA

Angela is a 13-year-old peasant girl whose virginity is bought from her father by Calixto, a landowner in the area. A story that takes place in Córdoba in the 40s, a rural region in Colombia, in the midst of a social and political event that crosses the historical of the characters.
Angela is forced to remain continuously next to Calixto regardless of the circumstances. Calixto, as a result of the different pressures that his social environment imposes on him, makes decisions that lead to using Angela as a shield or escape to them.
Angela is the story of how the birth of a woman ends up becoming the curse of being at the mercy of what men and social rules decide about the body and life of women

Director Statement

The movie is based on real events. Although they happened in the 40s, this is something that still continues to happen in Colombia and Latin America. Consensual sex and child marriage are nowadays backed by Colombian law since the age of sexual consent in Colombia is 14 years old and articles 117 and 140 establish that adolescents between 14 and 18 years old can marry with the express permission of their parents. That's why when Angela's story came to our ears, we decided to start this project that was filmed in Córdoba, Colombia. with professional and natural actors, recreating a macho and patriarchal universe that is still intact. Our only intention was to give voice to Angela on behalf of all the women who have had to live these abuses and those who still suffer them
