And I will sit down in the rain with the others
The film "And I will sit down in the rain with the others" refers to scenes from Slatan Dudow´s and Bertolt Brecht´s film“Kuhle Wampe”(1932) and Joris Ivens´“Regen” (1929/1941), for which Eisler composed the music. In Faroqhi's drawings, references to city views of the 1930s mix in loose succession with views of contemporary Berlin. Eisler's stages of emigration are recorded in a handwritten note by his future wife Lou Eisler. In a similar way, the film describes an everyday scene: wind comes up, rain pours over the city. The film traces the different movements that result from this event: clouds move across the sky, windows are blown up by sudden gusts of wind, others are closed as a precaution, rain is pouring down on roof tiles, people are rushing to the streets carrying umbrellas or taking the tram to escape the rain. The change of image speeds up, the music seems to become more and more penetrating. Eisler seems to ask: where is support in this situation?
