Ioannis Monastiropoulos: director, screenwriter and actor. He was born in 1984 in Thessaloniki and is of Greek Pontian descent. He initially studied Mechanical Engineering at the Technological Educational Institute of Serres, a town in Northern Greece. After graduating, he decided to study drama at Iakovos Kampanellis drama school in Athens. He graduated 4 years later and he started working in the theatre but quickly evolved to become a screen actor. His need to express himself through words led him to study script writing which resulted in writing three short film scripts and one feature film script. He continued studying film techniques and as a result he shot one of his own short films ‘‘Anchorwoman’’.
The birth of Anchorwoman in July 2015 in Greece.
Greeks are facing a significant social challenge while capital controls are imposed in an
effort to prevent an economic crash. As a result people are queuing on a daily basis outside
of ATMs and supermarkets impatiently waiting to either withdrawn their money or do their
food shopping.
You can have a glimpse into their motives and thoughts by talking to them and observing
their facial expressions. You will see one powerful motive, one strong emotion: fear.
Greeks of all ages, gender, social and cultural background are trapped in the vicious circle
of fear which is deeply rooted in their hearts and minds and it has become conscious.
The European Union and the Greek governments are losing public's trust as corruption and
lies are being reported daily. Influential journalists seem to manipulate the public and plot
against the people inventing fake news for their own benefit and the benefit of the powerful
ones.
It’s a pattern that has been repeated over the years and we need to stop it otherwise it will
destroy our future.
It is 2018, Greece is suffering, and Greeks are struggling under the burden of it all, but is this
the pick of their suffering? What will be the result of additional austerity measures or even
a bank deposit levy? Will media and government align in order to influence and contain
public opinion? How will people react?
Finally… what about us?
