Anastasiya Gribanova is a Ukrainian filmmaker from Crimea, raised in the rural Donbass region of eastern Ukraine, an area now devastated by the ongoing war with Russia. With a background in languages, she initially worked as an English teacher and translator before transitioning to journalism. She joined the BBC bureau in Kyiv, where she re-trained as a video journalist. Over the course of her decade-long career, she contributed to numerous productions, taking on various roles in the world of video storytelling.
In 2024, Anastasiya graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London, fulfilling her long-held dream of becoming a documentary filmmaker. Her directorial debut, There Came a Hunter, marks a new chapter in her career.
Anastasiya’s work often focuses on the human impact of war, particularly the struggles faced by women in conflict zones, and the resilience of the Ukrainian people. She is passionate about telling untold stories of displacement, survival, and the fight for dignity. Currently, she lives and works in Kyiv, Ukraine.
