Director Biography - Ty Rabideau

Ty Rabideau is a director, actor and writer from Anderson, South Carolina. Originally from Lebanon, Maine, Ty moved to the southeast in 2015 to attend college. In his time at the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, Ty honed his skills as a true multi-hyphenate artist. Working as a teacher's aid in both the scene shop and film classes in addition to starring in mainstage shows, Ty made his mark as a renaissance man. This do-it yourself attitude inspired him to start his own production company while still in school. Film Bros. Productions has been going strong ever since and will make its festival debut with Anamnesis. Since college, Ty has had the opportunity to serve as the director of photography on multiple independent films one of which starred Oscar nominated actor Eric Roberts. His main artistic inspirations are directors Edgar Wright and Taika Waititi. He plans to continue producing independent film with local artists and one day own a raccoon named Guillermo. In his spare time, you can find him illustrating X-men characters or warming up a plate of lasagna. Ty Rabideau is a passionate do-it-yourself filmmaker and hopes to be on a screen near you soon.

Director Statement

I wrote this film as experiment to really challenge myself, but it ended up becoming so much bigger than me. I wanted to explore casting against type, different genres, and create something that was outside of the various boxes we had been put into during our careers. After college, it was exciting to start something fresh that would truly be my own but then like so many productions covid halted our plans. Fast forward a year later, after not seeing each other and not creating, everyone was so excited to be working. Due to the pandemic and budget constraints, many cast members doubled in roles. Often an actor would double as a camera or boom op when it wasn’t their take. Another actor composed music for the film. Others helped create props. What you see on screen is a story about a group of friends falling apart but, behind the scenes we were coming together. Everyone was bringing their all to the table and the energy was electric. I started making film just so I could give myself work as an actor. The whole mission of Film Bros was to give opportunities to people coming up in the industry. And with this being our first short, I am proud of what we achieved artistically of course but, I am so glad to see the community that we set out to create became a reality. What you’re seeing is a full immersion into pandemic style independent film making. A group of artist and friends coming together to make something after a year of being apart.
