The Anafi International Film Festival is a curated short film festival which aims to promote and support independent cinema and bold creators.
The team consists of industry professionals with experience in international film festivals and cultural institutions. We came together to create a space where new voices can be listened to, create bonds and get inspired.

We believe in cinema as a unified medium and we are interested in the blending of genres and cinematic approaches. We are looking for innovation, experimentation and originality.
Our goal is to blend special cinematic narrative journeys of short form from every corner of the world and from every cinematic approach – fiction, documentary, animation, experimental – with the enchanting natural scenery, morphology, and traditions of the magic island of Anafi. One of our priorities being, the bridging of innovative cinema with the island’s inhabitants.

The festival is taking place on the secluded Cycladic island of Anafi during the first weeks of July. Located an hour from Santorini, this island offers a quiet and mystical setting for us to come together. During the festival, screenings will take place mostly outdoors around the island, workshops as well as masterclasses in various natural locations and of course, on the beach.

The ability of film to combine all art allows us to take a more circular approach in organizing AnafiFF. Spread over the course of five days, our under-the-(zillion)-stars screenings are the absolute highlight at the end of the day. To accompany our nightly screenings, our five day festival offers practical workshops on filmmaking, photography, art and dance, Q&A sessions, dinners and networking events. We strive to create a platform where the local communities can engage with international guests, views can be exchanged and collaborations flourish.

We are passionate teams, we support independent and low budget cinema, and we have sophisticated, quirk and maverick sensitivities. We are mesmerized by bold and unconventional approaches, stories and characters that tend to constantly explore and challenge the limitations of their existence.
We aim to create a programme that has the power to challenge and stir the waters, but also inspire, motivate, and spark connections between the art and the person.

The programming committee is composed of film professionals and cultural workers and a variety of backgrounds, interests and talents. Everyone’s vote is thoroughly discussed and counts equally, thus our core values for equality, transparency, healthy working environments, authenticity and balance is supported by our actions.

The programmers determine a festival selection through discussion and voting. Each participating programmer has an equal vote and no festival competition selections are made outside of this process.

Our programmers are not required to read submission cover letters and other supporting materials, but we encourage you to submit them in case they want to learn more about you and your work. As a rule of thumb, we don't share programming feedback with entrants. The Anafiff programmers' decisions are final.

1.All film submissions should be made digitally through the platform Filmfreeway.
2.Films submitted should not exceed 45 mins in length.
3.Films should have a completion date no earlier than January 2021.
4.If selected to be showcased, we will request an .srt file with ENG subs to be submitted with the film. We strongly recommend that ALL submitted films regardless of category include burned English subtitles (whether the film is in English or another language) so that they may be accessible to all of our Programmers. Films in a language other than English MUST have English subtitles.
5.We consider work in progress. Please include a title card describing what is unfinished at the beginning of the submission screener.
6.We consider films regardless of their premiere status. Even if your film has already premiered at another festival, whether it screened at a physical venue or online, it’s still eligible for consideration.
7.All screeners must be uploaded by the appropriate deadline.
8.We will contact entrants if there's anything wrong with the submission. If this occurs, you will need to fix the submission issue by the requested deadline, otherwise we can't guarantee that your film will be watched in time.
9.We don't provide refunds for festival entries.
10.The programming team reserves the right to invite short films out of the above procedure in special cases.
11.Entrants can update their screener by uploading a new video file provided your original link URL does not change. The link must stay the same after you have submitted your entry. If it is replaced programmers will lose access to your screener and it may not be watched in time for consideration.
12.After the program is announced, a film submission cannot be withdrawn.
13.Applicants selected for participation will be informed by email no later than 9th of June, 2024.
14.If selected, entrants are responsible for delivering their festival exhibition copy, trailer, screener link, press stills and press-kit on time.
15.If selected, we encourage the filmmakers to attend the festival.
16.The festival will provide accommodation for three nights and some of the traveling expenses, depending on availability, will also be covered.
17.Anafi island is small and has limited accommodation options, thus we will act upon a first come, first served basis and depending on the number of attendees. Make sure you confirm with us early if you plan to attend.
18.If selected, the filmmakers will be expected to sign an agreement stating that they own all rights to their film and its components ahead of screening at Anafiff. The participant shall declare that he/she owns the copyright for the mini-film, short film or other sample of work submitted, according to the relevant national and international regulations. He/She shall guarantee that no rights of third parties are violated by the material used in the film or other sample of work submitted. The participant unconditionally and irrevocably shall declare his/her copyright responsibility towards third parties in case of disputes over copyright violations.
