An Entertainer

"An Entertainer" captures the feelings of an earnest clown left alone in distress on the dark and stormy streets of New York City. In a moment of hopelessness, the clown encounters a magic 8 ball to confide in.

While wandering the city by night, the clown is confronted by messages that encourage him to recognize his own potential. Rather than relying on his own confidence, the clown learns to lean on the answers of the magic 8 ball, which eventually leads him into an even deeper state of despair.

After soon realizing that his lifestyle is turning into a cycle of depression, the clown discards the magic 8 ball off a bridge and into the river below.

In his newfound confidence, the clown also discards the mask he's been hiding behind. Free from the perspectives of others, the clown is able to begin his journey towards self-confidence.

Director Biography - Maxamillion Cope

After growing up all across the United States, I always found it customary to never address any one place as "home". Few things were consistent in my life, namely change itself. Constantly moving allowed me to have opportunities that nobody else I've ever encountered has experienced. I've gained an original perspective on life that I hope to share through different mediums of art throughout my life. In the future I hope to be in a position that allows me to encourage others to pursue change in their lives, because of the ways it has affected me.

Director Statement

In my short film "An Entertainer", I aspired to draw a line between the ideas we should and shouldn't entertain. Through an in-depth look into the clown's journey, inspired by events in my own life, I was able to explore the trials that often inspire us to follow our dreams and build our self-confidence. Though a small and minor dent in the work I'll complete in my life, and likely quickly forgotten, I hope that any audience viewing "An Entertainer" is encouraged to be true to themselves.
