Amidst the Chaos
Amidst the Chaos is a short documentary that encapsulates the socio-economic dynamics in Africa. From the South African landscape, the story takes the viewer through the daily life of an average person. Issues of access to quality resources (such as clean water, infrastructure and transportation), food security, electricity, public health and gender parity are addressed throughout this documentary. The cut and paste montage style of the audio and visual clippings not only creates a multi-textured feel but it also emulates how lived experiences can be viewed differently from the perspective of the masses. Which begs the question, 'how have we come to accept this chaos as our order'?
Amidst the Chaos is the result of a #MobileFilmmaking course which was initiated by The Wot-If? Trust in 2018 to empower young women from Diepsloot with film content and production skills. The girls and women from this group ranged in age from 9 - 26 and were trained by award-winning filmmaker, Shelley Barry from twospinningwheels.
