Ambivalence tells the story of Gökhan, a man caught in a profound struggle of conscience and loyalty. Forced by the brutal rules of the criminal underworld to kill his closest friend, Gökhan finds himself overwhelmed by an inner conflict. Torn between love, duty, and survival, his battle with these opposing emotions reveals the contradictory nature of the human spirit.

Director Biography - Berke Tankas

Berke Tankas graduated from high school in the United States in 2018 and moved to Italy to explore his passion for cinema. While living there, he worked as a videographer, honing his skills in visual storytelling. In 2020, he returned to Istanbul and began studying New Media at Beykent University, where he is now preparing for graduation. During his studies,Berke Tankas has contributed to numerous commercial films, promotional videos, and social media projects.

After directing an amateur short film, he completed his first professionally produced short film, Ambivalenz. Having lived in the United States, Italy, Finland, and Turkey, he is fluent in English, Italian, and Finnish. These diverse experiences have not only broadened his linguistic skills but also enriched his cinematic perspective, allowing him to bring depth and variety to his work.

Director Statement

Ambivalenz is about Gökhan, a man facing a painful choice between loyalty and survival. The story shows his inner struggle as he is forced to act against his feelings in a harsh criminal world.

I wanted to explore how people deal with conflicting emotions and difficult decisions. My experiences living in different countries have shaped my perspective and helped me tell stories about the complexity of human nature.

With this film, I hope to make viewers think about their own emotions and the choices we all face in life.
