Director Statement

“Am Fear Liath" delves into the delicate interplay between humanity, nature, and the enigmatic, with a poignant exploration of obsession. While the film maintains a light-hearted tone, it skilfully navigates dark moments, peering into the complex psyche of characters, notably the intriguing Rheinhold.
Embarking on this cinematic journey was an exhilarating adventure, particularly given the rich folklore surrounding the elusive Bigfoot. The opportunity to bring this iconic creature to life on screen and collaborate with an exceptional team of creatives transformed the process into a joyful play rather than conventional work.
At its core, the film scrutinizes our interactions with nature, revealing how seemingly innocent fascinations can evolve into consuming obsessions that erode our very identities. This theme resonates strongly with both Fred and Rheinhold, with the latter's relentless pursuit of the creature culminating in a disturbing turn towards violence.
Our production strategy prioritized simplicity, addressing potential challenges on set with ingenuity. The decision on whether to reveal the creature prompted creative discussions. Adhering to the belief that a wide shot and character singles constitute a movie, we crafted an approach that balanced budget constraints with artistic innovation.
Collaboration was key, drawing on the strengths of a talented cast and crew. Leveraging existing relationships and introducing new talents like Siobhan and Ger from auditions completed our ensemble, fostering a dynamic and enjoyable on-set atmosphere that, hopefully, translates into the film's infectious spirit.
Script development involved audience research, incorporating viewer preferences to deliver a fresh and compelling narrative. The result is a unique twist on the creature feature genre, catering to diverse expectations and offering something refreshingly different.
"Am Fear Liath" was a joyous adventure, and I anticipate audiences will find delight in its exploration of the unknown. As we eagerly anticipate their reactions, our team is already immersed in the creation of our next project, and we look forward to sharing more details soon. I hope this film serves as an engaging experience, inviting viewers into the whimsical yet thought-provoking world we've crafted.
