Altrefrontiere Dance Festival 2022 - A Documentary Film
Altrefrontiere was born from the desire to give visibility to a contamination of different energies, united by a constant research through body language in the international context of dance. It's the idea of breaking boundaries, and with that, the limits of body and mind.
Body language communicates without words, it's an universal language that unites everyone.
And in all, the same language is expressed differently.
When we allow it, life takes us to the places that are destined for us, to the people who at that moment, and somehow, are waiting for us, and to the opportunities that will take us to a better place.
My presence was validated by the amount of emotional experiences inside and around me. Diving into an experience like this is diving into each one in front of me, it's about feeling what they are feeling and entering into each one's internal process while I live mine.
Dancing is not just an external movement, a river that flows to its end also has its source, and like him, dancing has also its origin somewhere - a place that is not visible.
The visibility of something that was born to feel is an utopia.
And so this project is born as well as the internal process of each one, and their catharsis.
This year, I documented the Altrefrontiere Dance Festival in a very special way, where another opportunity arises to reach further a new place.
There is no light without shadow, nor is there shadow without light.
Dancing is accessing emotions - by avoiding them or diving into them. And with this project I highlight the importance of untying internal knots, letting the light in so that this shadow can be seen - which we chose invisibility as a state.
We become attached to losses, traumas, pains, moments that we don't want to live without because at least they occupy space, make us company, are just there. And if we release all of this we feel empty, we are confronted with questions like “What now?”; “What am I going to entertain myself with?”; "Do I have to be happy now?"
In dance, freedom, love, pleasure and joy are also mentioned. Yes, it's not just the 'bad' things that are difficult to express. We're in an era where we are also pushed to communicate the good, to speak the language of love, and to dance the magical vulnerability of the human being. Surrendering ourselves to something or someone is accepting that nothing is perfect and that the risk of loss comes with it.
At the end of 2022 I returned to dance, which I practiced for many years along with acrobatic gymnastics. After years of avoiding and accumulating emotions, these two immersive weeks in Italy triggered in me emotions that wanted to leave for a long time.
That's why dance has not only the gift of expression, but it's also a way for the invisible to move and reach where and who needs it.

Joana is a Lisbon based photographer whose work reflects her appeal to emotions.
She treats photography as art and explores it as therapy.
She found in photography a poetic way to express herself.
Joana immerses in work as if looking for answers to inner questions. Persistent and ambitious, she believes each work she makes brings knowledge to herself by recreating her vision of that moment. Photographing is also looking for meaning in what she sees.
From travels to projects, Joana always leaves her footprint, just as she is. Curious, observant, sensitive, intuitive, creative, and dedicated to everything she does.
In photography she doesn't control, instead she lets it get out of control in favor of the magic it can offer her in these conditions.
She is 26 years old and was born in Coimbra. She went to Lisbon to study and work when she turned 18. Under pressure, she completed her degree in Photography and never stopped working, whether in her field or not.
She learned to learn and to unravel her role in her life.
She traveled to Iceland, Angola, Italy, the Pyrenees, Thailand, and many other destinations with the company of Photography and her thirst for getting to know herself.
Whenever she can, she dips into a ticket and lets the trip tell her a story.
Today,
she is a people person.
