Lyf Stolte is the Artistic Director and Actor-in-Residence at Sanctuary Toronto, a community in downtown Toronto that works with oppressed and marginalized people. Since 2003, Lyf has been engaging the community in various artistic adventures, including 7 full-length theatre productions, over 40 short skits, sketches and one-act plays, a dozen workshops, and various video experiments. One of his greatest joys is amplifying the voices of his friends and community.
Al Honen was a complex and wonderful man. He could regale you with tales long and short, jokes appropriate and, well, less-than appropriate. He loved music and regularly sang along with one of my co-workers to "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. But the thing that I think he loved the most was this poem, Alone by Edgard Allan Poe. He would recite it at the most random times. And I tried countless times to get him to recite it for me. Alas, he was taken from our world too soon. Knowing how much he loved this poem, I realized that it would be the least that I could do to engage my community in reciting this as a tribute to the man who touched our lives so deeply.
