Experiencing Interruptions?

Alone

After a recent breakup and a self-imposed isolation from the world, a young woman starts cherishing her time alone and the opportunity to get to know who she really is, no boyfriends around to define her the way they always had in the past. Truly alone for the first time in eight years, she feels empowered and in control of her own life. But as she celebrates her freedom, loneliness becomes overbearing, inviting fear and painful memories back into her life. This is an intimate portrayal of one woman's healing journey from unnerving isolation to total acceptance of life as it is.

Director Biography - Spela Francic

I was born in a sleepy rural village called Crensovci in East Slovenia, where nature still plays a big part in people’s lives. As a shy teenager, I spent my high school lessons doodling, painting and writing poetry. I lived in my own magical world, full of elves, magicians, bohemian souls, glitter and everything related to circus. What poked me out of my shell was theatre. I started performing at the local amateur theatre group and that’s when I came across Tomaz Pandur‘s Theatre of Dreams and, quite frankly, fell in love with it.
I studied Contemporary Theatre and Performance at UCLan in Preston, England and lived in Liverpool, Bristol and London since my graduation in 2012.
I started playing with photography and filmmaking, developed a strong interest in abandoned buildings and eccentricity, and the rest is history.
All I ever wanted was to make art and be surrounded by inspiring artists, so a creative community organisation was formed in 2014, named The Madhouse Collective after a special house in Liverpool where most of us resided.
I am currently based in Bristol and am working on a series of short experimental films.

Director Statement

People often ask me what my religion is and my answer always leads to their confusion.

I believe in Truth.

I swear by honest communication and authentic expression of my inner self.
I tend to paint, draw and capture all that resembles the depths of my mind, which enables me to connect to the world around me on a deeper level.

"As within, so without" is the most accurate representation of my artistic creations. I experience the process as a spiritual practice and use it as a necessary tool which helps me achieve mental balance and happiness.

I also like to offer myself up as an open book and shamelessly lay out my dreams, views and insecurities in the hopes of encouraging others to feel safe to do the same - my purpose is to seek out brave souls with whom I can enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of human imperfections.

Unleashing creativity helps me heal negative perceptions I hold of myself and enables me to abandon all the boxes that society has placed me in so eagerly over the years.

My art is a reflection of life lessons disguised as a tea party with Madness and Individuality as guests of honour. This occurrence is where light, love and life are celebrated in the most quiet manner, with occasional sparks of powerful rave-like excitement.

And, of course, everyone's invited to join in.
