AKAKŪ is hosting a video story-telling contest about what sugar has meant to you, and what a post-sugar future might look like for all of us.

The #AlohaSugar video contest is open to Amateurs, Professional Videographers and Individuals. We want Hawaii to share their view of Maui Sugar’s rich past, present and future for the 36,000 acres of land left without a clear goal in mind or plans in view.

The #AlohaSugar video contest is accepting video submissions that reflect stories, ideas, or experiences from Maui sugar’s past, present and future.

Sugar Features are (#sugarfeatures) two to ten minute videos submitted for judging by a panel of experts.

Sugar Snaps (#sugarsnaps) are 30-60 second videos shared with @AkakuContest on Instagram, made with your phone, The video with the most likes wins! The most popular videos will be featured on AKAKŪ TV.

- All entries are accepted per submission until 12am, April 1st, 2017

Rules & Terms

Submission Deadline:
All film submissions must be shipped prepaid and packed in proper containers postmarked no later than their respective deadlines. Details follow below for categories, methods and amount of payment(s).

Submissions are accepted NO LATER than April 1, 2017.

Definitions of Categories and Terms:

Format - Sugar Features have 2 options for submission. You can submit your video at:
www.akaku.org. Locate the link to FilmFreeway and follow directions provided.
You may also submit your video to AKAKŪ Center at 333 Dairy Rd. Ste. 104, Kahului, Hawaii.

Accompanying Materials - If you are delivering your video to our studio, please include a printed copy of the Entry Confirmation Form with your video submission on DVD or USB drive. MP4 is the preferred type of video submission. Incomplete entries will not be considered. All entries, and accompanying materials, will not be returned and will become the property of AKAKŪ Maui Community Media.

DVD Labeling - DVDs must be labeled with the video title, running time, FilmFreeway tracking # and contact information (including name, address and phone number). NO Paper Labels Please.

Receipt Acknowledgment - FilmFreeway will notify the sender by email when the package is received and processed in our system.

Notification - Videos selected for our Viewing Party in all categories will be notified on or about April 15, 2017

Materials - Materials of videos selected for screening become the property of the Aloha Sugar Contest and AKAKŪ: Maui Community Media and can be used to promote the “Aloha Sugar” Contest and the programs of the “Aloha Sugar” Video Contest in all mediums including video, television, radio, print and the internet.
