(b. 1996, Colorado) (he/him) is a writer and director based in New York City. Currently, his work revolves around labor and learning disabilities. Beginning his career in theatre, his work was seen at Times Square Arts, Art Frieze, The Tank, Movement Research, and Dixon Place. Hunter assisted directors at New York Theatre Workshop and Prelude Festival. He has twice been a guest teacher at Marymount Manhattan College. Additionally, he was awarded a Stage Directors and Choreographers Observership twice. Hunter’s interests extend to fashion, he’s made commercials for young fashion designers and photographed Paris Fashion week. To learn filmmaking, he crewed on film sets. Additional training includes a Certificate in Filmmaking from NYU Yellowbrick. More training includes apprenticing with screenwriter & playwright Robert Schenkkan, Sundance Co//ab, Union Docs & fine art classes at Pratt Insitute. Hunter holds a Bachelor of Arts in Acting and Directing from Marymount Manhattan College. "All the Words on the Page" is his narrative filmmaking debut.
I'm Hunter Gause, a filmmaker raised in Denver and now living in Brooklyn. I worked in the theater, a little in fashion, and now I make films. "All the Words on the Page" is my first narrative filmmaking project. It's about a disability that's defined most of my life - dyslexia.
In preparing the script, I took a dyslexia studies class from Yale University and consulted Mary Stowe M. Ed., an education researcher from William and Mary School of Education. The film had to be not only well-researched but authentic. Therefore, I cast Maximillian Isaacs, a dyslexic actor, as our leading character, “Arlo.” In doing so, I hope to make Arlo’s invisible disability visible.
The film is also a story about failure and education; in that way, "All the Words on the Page" is a coming-of-age drama.
