Director Biography - Álex Gassent

Born and raised in Madrid, I started getting intro storytelling at the age of 12, when I dreamed about being a novelist. After a few years and many failed novels, I got to the world of filmmaking when I was 17, and I fell in love with it. I then became a self thought filmmaker for a few years, filming a few low cost shorts from 2019-2020
Nowadays, I'm getting my bachelor's degree in Film, TV and Media Studies at the Carlos III University in Madrid and keep on filmmaking, trying always to tell the best story possible in the best way there is.
With my first two university short films, "Arsemia (or a story about love)" (2021) and "The Carrasco Brothers" (2022) I had the chance to experience international festivals, getting a few selections for official sections and also an award as Best Young Director (VIFF, February 2022).

Director Statement

This film is a love letter to the genre western, coming from a place of respect and innovation directly from our hearts. It aims to take the concept of the western and adapt it to what we decided to call the "CHORIZO" Western (or "PAELLA" western if you like)... something that has a strong Spanish identity. We also wanted to experiment formally with the genre hybridisation between western, horror and sci-fi.
