The first Allentown Symphony Orchestra Film Festival looks to foster creativity and story telling using music as inspiration.
The ASO encourages all local and regional filmmakers to create and submit a short film based or inspired by the extraordinary pre-selected works of Chinese-American composer Zhou Tian.

1) Entries into the Allentown Symphony Film Festival should not exceed a time limit of 7 minutes including ALL titles and credits.
2) Films previously entered into and screened at any other festival are not eligible for re-entry in subsequent years.
3) Films not presenting the pre-selected music of Zhou Tian are not eligible for selection
4) The AFF will have 3 categories: Middle School & High School Submissions, College Students Submissions & +21 years old Submissions
5) The ASA reserve the right to refuse to screen any submission deemed by the Festival to be inappropriate. Should you wish to question ASA about their decision, you can contact us by email at nnunez@allentownsymphony.org
6) All submissions are screened and evaluated by the ASA Preview Committee, appointed by the festival organization. Their reports are final and confidential.
All films received, which meet our criteria, will be screened at the festival. These films will be screened numerous times throughout the festival. Due to the amount of films we receive only the top scoring films will go through into the competition. Submitters will be advised via email and the list will also be announced on our website and on our Facebook page in the second week of March 2018. The winning short films will be judged and chosen from the pool of submissions received at the Film Festival screening on the evening of Thursday March 21 2019.
7) In the event of a film being withdrawn, ASA will not be liable to return the materials entered.
8) ASA will determine the time and order when submissions will be screened. ASA cannot be held accountable for changes to the schedule after the festival line-up is announced.
9) Participation in the AFF grants us the authorization to show the entered film to the members of our committee.
10) One entry per person only. Please make sure you are submitting to the right category
11) The Festival will not be responsible for the cost of receiving any additional materials i.e. DVDs, posters, photos, etc.
12) If any other music or additional film material used in your film is not original, then permission from source must be obtained. The responsibility for this rests entirely with the filmmaker. Failure to obtain clearance could result in your film being withdrawn from the Festival. In this event, ASA will not be liable to refund the fee or return the materials entered.
13) The submission of a film to AFF will be considered to be an acknowledgement of the festival rules.
14) Entrants should UPLOAD their film to FilmFreeway on the day that the entry form is completed. Please include all your information, even photos. Please write a 10-15 word (ONLY) synopsis for use in our festival programme – should your film be selected. Please fill in all the credit information. WE WOULD LIKE TO ENSURE THAT THE JUDGES VIEW YOUR FILM IN THE HIGHEST QUALITY POSSIBLE SO WILL ONLY ACCEPT FINAL CUTS. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR FILM IS READY AT THE TIME OF ENTRY. .
15) AFF will contact you if there are any problems with your film.
16) Please do not send DVD’s or copies of your film direct to us unless requested to do so. At time of submission we will only accept your entry if your film is upload to FilmFreeway.
17) Please note that we only accept completed short films and not scripts.
18) If the film is not in English, it must include hard coded English subtitles.

    This was my very first festival, so I can’t compare it to others. For me, it was a wonderful experience, made incredibly special by the ability to incorporate the music of Zhou Tian. This festival has encouraged and inspired me to continue creating and sharing.
