I've been into filmmaking for as long as I can remember. I remember watching Kusturica's films religiously as a child - my father showed them to me. To this day, he is one of my favorite feature directors. My father called him Pushkin of cinema because of his outstanding talent.
I got interested in documentary filmmaking when I was about 16 years old - that's when I started watching few documentaries a day. My favorite documentarians are Chris Marker, Wim Wenders and Artavazd Peleshyan. I got into my dream school - VGIK - the university, that made such master filmmakers as Tarkovsky and Peleshyan. Then, when I started second semester of second year, the war started. Living in an authoritarian regime for my whole life, I still wasn't ready for this. I always strive to tell the truth, but it's harder to do it in such conditions, so that affected a few of my ongoing projects. But I believe that the power of art and filmmaking is able to present a peaceful message even in such hard times. I think now is the time documentary reveals its potential for change, not in a political, but rather in a moral field.
