All The Way Around

Movie Synopsis: All The Way Around

Male on Male Rape: The Hidden Toll of Stigma and Shame
All The Way Around examines a form of violence that, despite worldwide prevalence, remains vastly underreported and unrecognized. It dispels popular myths and questions why most communities cannot or will not confront the problem of same-sex sexual violence.
Bearing in mind the tragedy and the delicacy of the issue, it is not easy to “frame” univocally the way in which cinema has considered it, typically in prison settings. But statistics show that the overwhelming sexual violence toward men occurs outside of prison walls.
All The Way Around is much more than a Rape and Revenge film, it is a classic Whodunit that with a plot twist guaranteed to stun the viewer. A TWA is whodunit is a mystery story that keeps the criminal's identity a secret until the very end. One distinction that is made between a typical Rape and Revenge film and All The Way Around is the way the film deals with sexual violence in a specious way, rape is not about sex…it is about power. But even in this distinction emerge “grey zones”, (ATWA attempts to clarify) because there are, many approaches: sometimes rape is perpetrated in a wider situation of violence, which can be domestic like the Oscar-winning best foreign 2016 film, The Salesman, also focused on the story of an Iranian couple whose relationship went through a difficult period after the wife was attacked by a stranger at home.
ATWA begs the question how does a married couple handle a rape when it is the husband that is the victim.
In “typical” cases films regarding rape are viewed as an isolated extemporaneous incident that irreparably marks the rest of the victim. In these films, the story often stems from the sorrow and the anger of the victim; and the quest for justice and revenge is one of the most frequent consequences. What is atypical about ATWA is who meets out the revenge….
You think you know, but you really don’t know unless you looked at the story:
