All Living Being
In Bali, 1940, Sadya (35), an adept sudra (lowest-caste) hunter feels anxious about Putri (22), his triwangsa (higher-caste) pregnant wife who abruptly behaves like wild animals. Sadya then asks his shaman sister Mbok Ayu (40) to cure Putri. Following a prior ritual, it is known that Putri has been possessed by animal spirits and can only be cured by confronting the vengeful jungle spirit who sent the curse. The jungle spirit was loathed by Sadya’s avarice that caused the extinction of balinese tigers. After a colliding convergence with the jungle spirit, Satya is then cornered and obliged to bargain. The jungle spirit agrees, with an exceptionally taxing price.

Rama Bayu Aji is a young director (born in 1998) who just graduated from Institut Kesenian Jakarta (Jakarta Institute of Art). He has gained experiences in directing several short films throughout his studies; Sarvani Bhutani - All Living Being (2018), 6 x 1 =1 (2017), Bahruang: The Kings of Roaming Spirits (2016), Howl of A Man (2016), and Bride and Seek (2015). He has a keen interest in visiting museums in Bali and learning about nature and humanity. He tries to incorporate what he has learned to his films.
The idea for the film is taken from Bali in 1940, after I watched several films and read news articles. I was fed up with the fact that human still hunt excessively even after several extinctions, just to collect the skins and body parts. Through this film I intend to explore how the human greed affects nature by using historical and cultural approach of Balinese mysticism that always fascinated me.
