Alexis Linda Oteng-Amponsah is a driven student filmmaker based in Florida. She is pursuing her B.A. in Film Studies at Florida Atlantic University and double majoring in communication. She is set to graduate in December of 2024. Recently, she was elected Station Manager of Owl TV, one of the three organizations in FAU’s Student Media. She first joined the organization during her freshman year as a volunteer and quickly rose. In Spring 2023, Alexis was awarded the Dorothy E. Schmidt College Of Arts And Letters Outstanding Student for Film, Video, and New Media for exemplary performance in her courses and extracurriculars.
After graduation, Alexis aspires to pursue a master's degree in either directing or screenwriting while establishing herself as a filmmaker in New York. She draws inspiration from the creative endeavors of renowned figures such as Sophia Coppola, Shonda Rhimes, Ava DuVernay, and Baz Luhrmann. Alexis's passion for film was ignited after viewing Luhrmann’s "Romeo + Juliet" (1996) in her sophomore English class.
In her free time, Alexis reviews movies and discusses the film industry for her podcast, ChickFlicks. She started the podcast in her freshman dorm after a friend advised her to create a show dedicated to her love of cinema. The podcast received recognition by securing third place at the College Media Association Apple Awards for Best Podcast.
