I am a photographer, filmmaker, and mixed media artist. I'm also the Executive Director of the Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, where I work beside the Rivanna River and teach history, environmental science, and the arts. My films have been shown at festivals such as the International Film Festival of Rotterdam, Paris/Berlin Rencontres, and the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival. When I was beginning in film, I worked as a film editor for the documentary company the James Agee Film Project, learning how to cut film with an actual blade and to tape the splices together and then to edit on an Avid system. For four years I taught media production at the University of Virginia, and I was also the founder and director of the Vinegar Hill Film Festival. The Vinegar Hill Film Festival focused on short films from Virginia or about Virginia, encouraging local filmmaking. We showed our films at a wonderful independent venue, the Vinegar Hill Theatre.
