I am an environmental educator, and I began to make underwater films of streams, rivers, and lakes as a way of understanding water and our ecology.
I am a photographer, experimental filmmaker, and mixed media artist. I'm also the Executive Director of the Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center in Charlottesville, Virginia, where I work beside the Rivanna River and teach history, environmental science, and the arts. My previous films have been shown at festivals such as the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and the Maryland Film Festival. When I was beginning in film, I worked as a film editor for the James Agee Film Project. Eventually I taught media production at the University of Virginia before (and also during) my current position. I was also the founder and director of the Vinegar Hill Film Festival for five years, which focused on short films from Virginia or about Virginia.
