Alexa Range is a filmmaker from Livonia, Michigan. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art & Design with a concentration in Digital Cinema from Northern Michigan University in May of 2019.
I have largely concentrated on nonfiction films, most of which are comedic and personal. Creating these types of films has enabled me to entertain and enlighten people using real aspects of my everyday existence. This film, Alexa, further invites the viewer to consider real situations through a comical perspective.
Since the creation of the Amazon Echo, the name Alexa has been fully ingrained into society and people’s minds as a technological entity that will serve one’s needs and answer questions. It has grown to the point that jokes, memes, commercials, advertisements, videos, and radio stations all use the name Alexa, and the known association of that name to the Amazon Echo, in order to deliver their message or punchline. As someone who has existed with the name Alexa for twenty-two years, dealing with the existence of the Amazon Echo is increasingly irritating. This short film humorously recounts and shows reenactments of real situations that have affected my life because of the Amazon Echo’s creation.
