Ale Alejandra
Vigilantes. Revenge. Barbecue Sticks.
Ale Alejandra is a short film about a young woman named Cassandra, who sets off to look for her missing sister, Valerie, and to seek revenge for the murder of their aunt, Alejandra.
In her vengeful journey, Cassandra uncovers her aunt’s strange past as a barbecue-stick-wielding vigilante, and confronts Jeremias, Ferdinand, and Roberto; the three men responsible for Alejandra’s murder and Valerie’s disappearance, and who were once Alejandra’s comrades in the notorious barbecue-stick-wielding vigilante group, Sutukil.

Samantha Solidum is a pioneer graduate of the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Cinema at the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, Philippines.
She is a freelance video editor who has worked on numerous video projects and short films, mostly under the Cebu-based group the Amateur Creative Thespians of UP (ACT-UP) and Tres Banderitas Productions.
A few of her notable editing works are "Ang Gugmang Ti-unay ni Daniella" (2013 Sinulog Short Film Finalist), "Dag-um" (2014 Sinulog Short Film Finalist), "Ina-Tay" (Binisaya 2013 Official Selection, Cinema Rehiyon 6 Official Selection, Cinemalaya 2014 Short Film Finalist), and "Pahiyom Alang Kang Evelyn" (2015 Sinulog Short Film Competition - Best Story and 3rd Best Film, Singkuwento Film Festival - Audience Choice Award)
Along with this, she has also written, directed and edited a few of her own projects and short films, the most notable of which are "Ritwal" (2012 Metro Manila Film Festival Short Film Finalist, Cinema Rehiyon 5 Official Selection), and "Diskonek" (Best in Editing and Best Guerrilla Film at the Mindanao Film Festival 2013, UPelikula 2014 Best Director, Cinema Rehiyon 6 Official Selection, Binisaya 2014 Finalist).
Ale Alejandra is basically about vigilantes, revenge, and barbecue sticks -- and I try to interweave all these elements together in an editing style that is reminiscent to the Philippine T'boli tribe's T'nalak Dreamweaver pattern called 'Ketumbe Nungel'.
The Ketumbe Nungel pattern is reliant on a dreamweaver's sanity, and so the pattern changes as to whether the weaver feels crazy or sane.
This interplay is what I incorporate into my editing. Like the T'boli dreamweavers, I too rely on my state of mind as I weave, or in this case, edit.. so you could say that I'm 'Dream-editing' -- doing my best to NOT show any of the short film's the cuts, interweaving all the moving images that we mostly shot guerilla-style.
