Alcides Caluamba, better known as Alcy, hails from Cuamba in the Niassa province of Mozambique. With a degree in Computer Engineering from India, Alcy has distinguished himself as a comedian, dancer, and graphic designer. His career in audiovisual production gained prominence after dubbing a segment of an interview that quickly went viral in Mozambique. Through this action, he mobilized charitable support for the interviewee, a person with a disability, marking the beginning of his journey as an influential social media personality, where he shares moments of humor with his followers.
In 2019, he became the first African to participate in India’s biggest TV dance show, *Dance Plus 5*, which expanded his international recognition. He later founded Alcy Media, a company based in Maputo specializing in photography, video production, electronic services, and filmmaking training, further solidifying his presence in the audiovisual market.
Alcy secured contracts with renowned companies such as Coca-Cola Mozambique and conducted campaigns for brands like Baygon, 2M Beer, and Caldo Benny. His work and influence on social media earned him a feature in the text interpretation section of the 10th-grade National Portuguese Language Exam, organized by the Ministry of Education and Human Development, in 2021.
In 2024, he released his first film, titled CALY. The film tells the gripping story of a father fighting to rescue his kidnapped daughter. According to Alcy, this project is the realization of a childhood dream. Saxophonist Moreira Chonguiça praised the work, stating that it helps dispel the stereotypes that “young Mozambicans don’t think, Mozambican youth are lost, and Mozambican youth don’t create.”
Currently, Alcy is one of Mozambique’s most prominent influencers, running his own production company that not only produced his film but also creates projects for renowned companies and offers training courses. This positions him as a significant figure in Mozambique’s cultural landscape.
