Laura Casabé is a director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. She studied Image and Sound Design at the University of Buenos Aires (U.B.A.). She trained with Emir Kusturica and took screenwriting courses at the New York Film Academy NYFA. She worked on numerous documentary TV programs shot in Latin America and Europe.
In 2010, she made her feature debut with "THE GOOD FAIRY: A PERONIST FABLE," which received several awards, including Best Film at the Havana Film Festival.
In 2017, she premiered her second feature film, "BENAVIDEZ'S SUITCASE," at the Blood Window galas at the Cannes Film Market, which participated in various international festivals such as BAFICI, Sitges, Fright Fest, Sanfic, Bifff, and Morbido, among others. The film won seven international awards (including Best Film, Audience Award for Best Film, Best Actress, Best Soundtrack, and Best Cinematography). In January 2017, it had its commercial release in Argentina and remained in theaters for seven weeks.
In 2019, she premiered her third feature film, "LOS QUE VUELVEN” at the Mar del Plata International Film Festival, participating in various festivals such as Rotterdam and BIFAN, and winning the Best Director award at the Sitges Festival. It premiered in Argentina in 2020 through the CINE.AR platform and was the first Argentine film to be screened at the San Isidro Drive-In. It was also awarded Best Fiction Feature, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound at the Bariloche Audiovisual Festival and received mentions for Best Screenplay and Best Director at the 2020 Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre Festival.
In 2022, she directed and co-wrote the horror medium-length film "El Temblor" for the Mexican horror anthology series "La Hora Marcada."
From 2020 to 2023, she directed, co-wrote, and produced her first documentary "FAMILY ALBUM" about state violence against trans women in Argentina in the 1990s. Winner of the main INCAA contests, currently in post-production.
She is currently working on the development of her fourth feature film "THE VIRGIN OF THE QUARRY PIT," based on three stories by the renowned writer Mariana Enríquez, with a screenplay by Benjamín Naishtat.
