When the Night Falls is a deeply personal project for me. As a period piece, this film allows us to explore a world where the struggles of those living in the shadows feel both distant and timeless. It’s a story that approaches these lives in a different way—focusing not just on their isolation, but on their humanity, their resilience, and the strength that grows in the darkness.
On a personal level, becoming a father to two boys has profoundly shaped how I approached this story. Parenthood changes you in ways you don’t fully understand until it happens. It shifts your priorities, makes you question your decisions, and reveals a new depth of vulnerability and responsibility. This film reflects that transformation—the ways our choices are altered when we think about the world we’re shaping for the next generation, and how love can drive us to seek redemption, hope, and purpose.
When the Night Falls explores universal themes of connection, redemption, and the power of hope, set against the evocative backdrop of a period piece. The story dives into the quiet battles fought in the shadows, while the rich, atmospheric visuals reflect the complexities of the characters’ inner worlds. Every detail—the interplay of light and shadow, the textures of the setting, the subtleties of the performances—creates an immersive experience that resonates beyond the screen.
For me, this film is not just about telling a story; it’s about inviting the audience into an emotional journey. It’s about seeing the unseen, feeling the unspoken, and finding humanity in the forgotten corners of the past.
