The International Festival of Romani Film: AKE DIKHEA?, which in Romani language means YOU SEE? is an festival of films by and with Romani people. It will take place for the eighth time between 21st and 27th October 2024 in Berlin. It presents the world from the perspectives of Romani people and asks the following questions: How do Romani people see themselves and how do they want to be seen? We are not waiting to get a voice, we are giving ourself one by creating a space and deciding by ourselves the content and forms of the events.

In seven festival days, we present:

The best films by and with Romani people featuring live Q&A's with the filmmakers and protagonist from around the world.

An opening evening with VIP guests and a closing award ceremony.

Special workshops exploring antigypsyism in film, designed for filmmakers as well as the wider public.

Panel discussions about the (re)presentation of Romani people in film and the media.

Parties and concerts with Romani bands and DJs.

Educational film sreenings for schools.

AKE DIKHEA? means self-determination, open-minded creativity and respect for everyone. From this stance, Romani film professionals are crucial for the film selection process and the festival event itself - our mission is to gather and make the work of Romani filmmakers, producers and other professionals visible!

Awards & Prizes

All films selected to be screened at AKE DIKHEA? will recieve the designation "Official Selection."

An international jury grant the Best Feature Film Award and Best Short Film Award and festival goers determine the Audience choice Award.

Rules & Terms

We accept films by Roma and non-Roma filmmakers with the highest degree of reflection on prejudices against Romani people.

AKE DIKHEA? accepts all forms and genres. Films must be submitted via online screener (Vimeo, YouTube, or FilmFreeway Screener).

There is no entry fee if you submit via Google form: https://forms.gle/zjKEPN5saTEjoAmQ6

For the submission via FilmFreeway, we require a symbolic fee of 1 Euro.

It is possible to register short films as well as feature-length films, we accept all film genres.

There are no restrictions regarding the year of production. Even though we prefer films which were finished within the last two years.

If the spoken language in the video is not English, the video must have subtitles in English.

We do not accept preview versions – only finished videos ready for presentation at the festival may be submitted. It is not possible to submit new versions of a video after the deadline.

The filmmaker will not hold AKE DIKHEA? its management, juries, subsidiaries, agents, sponsors, affiliates accountable for any and all claims of liability resulting from entry. The filmmaker certifies to have full rights. The Producer will indemnify the organisers of the Festival against all claims, demands, costs, damages, expenses (including legal fees), proceedings and losses resulting from the screening of the film at the Festival or from claims by any third parties.

    Ake Dikhea? is a truly special festival! Wonderful programme, venue and social events, and a great team who made me feel so welcome. I was a real honour to screen my short documentary 'Spread The Wings' there and really hope to be back in future years!
