After The Party
After The Party is exploring the schism between a balloon’s ephemerality and its complex material background: rubber.
Research into the resource body of natural rubber, the rubber tree or Hevea Brasiliensis, is showing implications of a colonial Modernity. The car tire industry has been a main driving factor behind the development of the rubber extraction industry and the capitalization of the Hevea Brasiliensis.
From an ultrasound shock effect to the body of the tree - maximizing the tree’s performance of latex production, through the acoustic footprint of rubber car tires on highways, to grinded car tires serving as a component in silent asphalt; sound is recurring throughout the research, which is expressed in the film’s soundscape.
This film is an outcome and poetic reading of a research project in collaboration with Alessia Lapio, as part of the course “Design & Research” with Giuditta Vendrame, at the Geo-Design department from the Design Academy Eindhoven.
